Istanbul is Turkey's largest city and its biggest university centre, home to more than 50 state and foundation universities, including Boğaziçi, Istanbul Technical University, Istanbul University, Yıldız Technical, Marmara, Koç and Sabancı. It hosts the largest international student community in the country.

The city spreads across two continents on either side of the Bosphorus, and student life ranges from the historic peninsula and Beşiktaş on the European side to Kadıköy on the Asian side. Metro, Marmaray, trams and ferries connect the two shores, and a large Arab community, halal food everywhere and direct flights to every Middle Eastern capital make it easy to settle in.
